This finely ground sencha powder is made from whole Yabukita tea leaves. This tea offers a fresh, slightly astringent taste and is perfect for brewing, as well as for culinary use in desserts and dishes.

The Origins of Yabukita

Yabukita is the most widely cultivated tea variety in Japan, prized for its strong aroma and refined sweetness, developed in 1908 by tea farmer Hikosaburo Sugiyama (杉山彦三郎) in Shizuoka. It was officially registered in 1953 and became Japan’s dominant tea cultivar due to its resilience and high-quality flavor. Yabukita sencha is distinguished by its balance of umami and mild bitterness, making it a classic choice for sencha lovers.

Tasting Notes

Harvest Season: The peak of tea harvest is in May.

Cultivation Method: This tea is made from "Kabusecha" (かぶせ茶), a type of tea grown under shading sheets to block sunlight, enhancing its vivid color and rich aroma. 

Brewing Instructions

Hot Brew:

  1. Sift 2g (about 1 teaspoon) of sencha powder into a cup.
  2. Add 150ml of hot water (80°C).
  3. Whisk until fully dissolved.

Cold Brew:

  1. Add 2g (about 1 teaspoon) of sencha powder to 200ml of cold water.
  2. Stir well until fully dissolved.
  3. Enjoy immediately or refrigerate.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, away from odors and light.
