This finely ground hojicha powder from Shizuoka offers an intense aroma with a deep, toasty flavor. The dark roast enhances its fragrance, creating a warm and comforting tea, ideal for drinks and desserts.
Hojicha has its origins in the Edo period, when tea makers began roasting lower-grade leaves to enhance their flavor and reduce bitterness. The roasting process not only lowers the caffeine content but also gives the tea its signature warm, nutty aroma. In Kyoto, the scent of hojicha became an everyday presence, especially during the colder months, making it a comforting and familiar tea in Japanese households.

Harvest Season: The peak of tea harvest is in May.
Cultivation Method: This powdered hojicha is made by roasting sencha, harvested during the period when the new tea has the best aroma, and then grinding it into powder. Both the leaves and stems of the sencha are used, giving the hojicha a sweet flavor and rich aroma.
Brewing Instructions
Hot Brew:
- Sift 2g (about 1 teaspoon) of hojicha powder into a cup.
- Add 150ml of hot water (80°C).
- Whisk until fully dissolved.
Cold Brew:
- Add 2g (about 1 teaspoon) of hojicha powder to 200ml of cold water.
- Stir well until fully dissolved.
- Enjoy immediately or refrigerate.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from odors and light.
